American-style Hamburger
Ingredients
Description
The hamburger American-style is a great classic of overseas cuisine: the real recipe for this sandwich is easy and quick to make, especially thanks to the irresistible AIA Pork and Beef Hamburger!
Sliced bacon, roasted onion, cheddar cheese and bbq sauce: four fundamental ingredients to create the traditional American-style hamburger, the main dish of every respectable made in USA barbecue.
What you (perhaps) don't know, however, is that the hamburger has German origins: born in the city of Hamburg, it was initially a simple beef meatball served with stewed potatoes, a typical dish of the mid-1800s. The recipe was brought to the United States by German migrants in those years: leaving in search of fortune from the port of Hamburg, the commercial hub of Germany, they quickly spread the dish in the "New World" under the name of hamburger steak, or Hamburg steak.
The rest, is history: from that moment on the hamburger recipe has evolved to reach our days, also thanks to the advent of American fast food chains that offer this delicacy in many different versions.
But let's go back to the new millennium: to get a perfect American-style hamburger, the cooking of the meat is fundamental. You can choose to cook the hamburgers rare, well done or medium, it depends a lot on your taste and that of your guests. The allies of the success of this recipe are, in addition to the ingredients, the griddle on which to cook the hamburgers and the kitchen thermometer, to identify the desired degree of cooking.
Always remember that the griddle must be very hot before being used, to prevent the meat from sticking; the thermometer, on the other hand, will serve you to evaluate the degree of cooking of the meat. For a rare hamburger, count 60-62°C, for medium cooking do not exceed 70°C while to have the "well done" you must reach 78-80°C, but no more: you would risk eliminating all the juices inside the meat that would be really not very soft.
To test your skills why not organize a stars and stripes themed dinner? You can make, in addition to the hamburgers, also the famous hot dogs (the recipe here), the fried chicken nuggets (the AIA Chicken Nuggets are perfect) or, still, the breaded sausages on the stick (the recipe here).
If you want to feel yankee for a day, all you have to do is try to cook the American-style hamburger: here is the complete recipe!
Procedure
Peel the onion, slice it into thin rings and set it aside; wash the lettuce and cut it into strips.
Heat the griddle well, then cook the AIA Pork and Beef Hamburger: it will take about 10 minutes. Halfway through cooking, salt it, pepper it lightly and turn it with the help of a spatula, so that it is perfectly cooked on all sides.
In the meantime, scorch the two slices of bacon in a non-stick pan over moderate heat (until they are golden and crispy, for about 3-4 minutes).
Add the onions to the griddle with the hamburger to roast them. They should be cooked but not too soft: turn them often during cooking and count 5 minutes before removing them from the heat.
Now cut the buns in half and heat them for 30 seconds in a non-stick pan, or on the oven grill (at 120°C).
At the end of the hamburger cooking, place a slice of cheddar on each one for a few seconds, until it begins to melt.
Now you have all the ingredients ready to assemble the American-style hamburgers: put the hamburger on the base of the bun, add the roasted onions, the crispy bacon slice and the salad, then spread the bbq sauce on the other slice of bread and close the sandwich.
