The American hot dog is ideal to eat in front of the TV for the championship final or for a dinner with friends in full USA style.

The original American hot dog recipe requires the use of a very soft and delicate milk bread, a long and delicious würstel and, of course, English mustard. Making it at home is really simple and you can serve it during an informal evening, for a party with a few guests or as a reward for children who are good at school. The American hot dog is the second course that immediately brings joy to the table!

Procedure

To prepare the American hot dog, cut the onion into slices about half a centimeter thick and put the rings obtained on a hot plate to grill them.

After cooking the onions, prepare the peppers. Wash them and put them whole in the already hot oven at 220°C until they are almost completely blackened. At that point, take them out of the oven and put them in a salad bowl, which you will close with plastic wrap to create condensation. This technique will allow you to peel the peppers very easily. Let them cool in the salad bowl, then with a knife remove the skin.

After peeling the peppers, cut them into pieces and remove the internal seeds. Mix them with the onions, season everything with the mustard and - if necessary - with a pinch of salt.

Cut the buns lengthwise, heat them for a moment in the oven or on the grill, stuff them with the pepper and onion mix, drizzle with mustard and insert the hot würstel that you have cooked in a pan for 4 minutes.

A fun and original idea that solves this small inconvenience is to create a table where you distribute all the necessary ingredients to compose your own American hot dog. Cover the table with a tablecloth in which there must be American flags, to stay on theme and make sure you have plenty of plates and bowls. Add some extra ingredients for the most demanding: a bowl of mayonnaise for children or more delicate palates, some pickled gherkins, ketchup and for the greediest some crumbled bacon slices!
