American Stuffed Turkey
Ingredients
Description
Do you want to celebrate Thanksgiving like the Americans do, perhaps to make some overseas friends feel at home? Learn how to make American stuffed turkey. The recipe is not particularly difficult, after all it is a stuffed turkey, certainly the cooking times are quite long.
Thanksgiving Day, which falls on the fourth Thursday in November, is a Christian holiday of thanksgiving for the harvest, so the menu is particularly rich and substantial.
To make your guest really feel at home, accompany the stuffed turkey with mashed sweet potatoes and if you have time you could also prepare a cranberry sauce. Also go overboard with cornbread and you will do wonders.
Procedure
First of all in the preparation of the American stuffed turkey take care of the stuffing. To have dry bread you can either cube it and leave it in the air all night or pass it in the oven at 180°C for 10 minutes.
In the meantime, clean the onions and celery and cut them into pieces, they will have to wilt together with the butter in a pan. Finally add 4 or 5 crushed sage leaves. Turn off the heat and pour this sauté into a bowl in which you will put the broth, the dry bread, a bunch of finely chopped parsley and the already boiled and roughly crushed chestnuts.
Mix the dough well so that all the ingredients are well blended and until you get a moist dough. Adjust salt and pepper.
At this point butter the turkey both outside and inside, then stuff it filling the abdominal pocket. If the stuffing should be too much you can distribute it around the turkey.
Season everything with oil, rosemary, sage and thyme. Sprinkle with half a liter of white wine and half of vegetable broth. Put to cook in a hot oven at 180°C. One hour for each kg of turkey.
